2008 Q&A with WeberHoops.com
1. Where are you from? Where did you go to school? Did you play basketball?
I am from Buckeye, AZ and went college at Kansas Wesleyan University. I played 4 years of basketball there (NAIA).
2. When was the first time you heard of Weber State?
No clue...a while back.
3. How did you become the director of basketball operations? Why did you come to WSU? Do you have a day job and what did you do before you came to WSU?
I was able to get this position after coaching high school and AAU basketball in AZ the past 2 years. I also taught High School PE the last 2 years. I was able to get to know some of the coaches here at Weber through the AAU program I coached for. It has been my goal to coach at the college level, and when Coach Rahe gave me the opportunity I gladly accepted. It's a great opportunity that most young coaches don't have, and it was something I could not pass up.
4. What are your job duties, what do you do?
I help handle various administrative duties around the office, and am involved with the day to day operations of our basketball program. I organize our film exchange and handle all of our video editing. I will also help w/ organizing team travel and planning team meals for our guys. I am also involved in monitoring our players' academics and assisting with on-campus recruiting visits. I try to do a lot of the little things so the other coaches don't have to worry about them and can concentrate more on what our team needs. Some of these tasks aren't always fun and can be very time consuming but every college coach has done them when he started out...it's hard work a lot of the time, but it's what you have to do if you want to be successful at this level.
5. What are your thoughts on this year's team?
We have a great group of guys that work extremely hard. They have a great mindset going into conference play, and have the potential to be one of the better teams in the Big Sky. We just have to keep getting better every practice and every game. Each week we are taking strides in the right direction to become the best team that we can be. Our team always has one constant goal, and that is to win our next game. As long as we focus on that and stick together we will have a great conference season.
6. How do you like Weber State/Ogden/Utah?
I really enjoy being at Weber State because I have the opportunity to coach at the college level. Utah is a lot different from Arizona in a lot ways, but basketball keeps the staff so busy you hardly have the time to realize it.
7. What is your favorite professional sports team?
Probably the Phoenix Suns---Steve Nash is the best player in the NBA
8. Movie?
Hoosiers, Glory Road, or Casino
9. Something interesting about you or something you've done that WSU fans wouldn't know?
I dunked on both D-will and Arturas in a pick up game once this fall! ;)
