In 1995 Weber State won the Big Sky Conference regular season title with an over record of 21-9 and 11-3 in Big Sky play. The 'Cats were actually co-champs with the Montana Grizzlies but Weber hosted the conference tournament, won both games and got the automatic bid to the 1995 NCAA Tournament. Montana went on to the NIT.
In the NCCA 1st Rd in Tallahassee, Florida, 14-seed Weber State upset 3-seed Michigan State. This was the last game that then head coach Jud Heathcote of Michigan State would coach before Tom Izzo would take over. Heathcote coached MSU for 19 seasons, 1976-1995. Prior to coaching at MSU, Heathcote was Montana's coach and took the Griz to their first ever NCAA Tourney appearnance in 1975.
More on Heathcote: In his 3rd year at Michigan State, he took the Spartans to the 1979 NCAA Championship, led by Magic Johnson, defeated Larry Bird and Indiana State Sycamores in the title game held at the University of Utah.
In the 2nd Rd of the '95 tourney as seen in the video clip, Weber played against Allen Iverson and the Georgetown Hoyas.
